Then again I have the rare experience of having dealt with this issue personally from both sides.” “It makes abortion illegal in almost all cases. “This Texas abortion law scares me,” he wrote. 3, Somerville’s Facebook post about his perspective on abortion cited his own life and his two daughters. The station barred him from posting on Facebook, the two KTVU sources said. He had already been disciplined this month for voicing what were deemed by the station to be inappropriate political opinions on Facebook, about the new Texas law that bans almost all abortions and about the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. Somerville has not commented on the incident. subsidiary that owns KTVU, said the anchor was going out on medical leave for two months after he appeared to slur his words during a broadcast. Somerville, who is white, has a Black teenage daughter and has posted on Facebook about how fatherhood raised his awareness of racial inequality. The next day, a human resources manager told Somerville he was suspended for defying a decision made by supervisors, the two sources said. The shorter version of Somerville’s address did not include the quote from the professor, the copy obtained by The Chronicle shows. Producers cut the tag again, and that day’s coverage of the Petito case ran without tags in all KTVU broadcasts. The producer expressed concerns to the newsroom, the source said. A producer who was not involved in the initial conversation then saw that an amended, 26-second version of the tag was in the broadcast script prepared for the 6 p.m. In a series of messages sent over the station’s internal messaging system, Somerville protested the cut but was overruled, the two station sources said. One of the sources said newsroom editors had approached Eikel before the broadcast, expressing misgivings about the tag, including that it seemed to suggest police had concluded Laundrie killed Petito. broadcast, Eikel told Somerville she planned to cut the tag, indicating that the topic warranted a separate, broader story with visuals, the station sources said. The Chronicle strives to attribute all information we report to credible, reliable, identifiable sources. Journalist Gwen Ifill coined the phrase “missing white woman syndrome” to describe news outlets’ disparate reporting on missing persons cases, with the disappearance of people of color attracting far less attention than cases involving white people, particularly young women. Somerville also quoted a professor who was critical of the media’s tendency to overlook stories about missing and slain women of color. It went on to cite statistics on deaths, showing that Black women are far more likely to be killed, “but their deaths are rarely reported and almost never get the kind of national attention that Gabby Petito’s death is getting.” “When it comes to domestic violence the numbers are off the charts,” the original tag said, according to a copy obtained by The Chronicle. Somerville wanted to bring in context on domestic violence and coverage of it, according to the two station sources. Somerville sought to add the 46-second tag to the end of an update about Petito, who was slain during a cross-country van trip with her fiance, Brian Laundrie, whom authorities have identified as a person of interest. According to the two people, who were granted anonymity in accordance with The Chronicle’s policy on confidential sources to discuss a sensitive personnel matter, the dispute at KTVU unfolded Tuesday afternoon.

In cooking, it is sometimes used as an emulsifier and to prevent sticking, for example in nonstick cooking spray. Lecithin is sold as a food additive and dietary supplement. This results in a type of surfactant that usually is classified as amphipathic. In aqueous solution, its phospholipids can form either liposomes, bilayer sheets, micelles, or lamellar structures, depending on hydration and temperature. It has low solubility in water, but is an excellent emulsifier. It is usually available from sources such as soybeans, eggs, milk, marine sources, rapeseed, cottonseed, and sunflower. Lecithin can easily be extracted chemically using solvents such as hexane, ethanol, acetone, petroleum ether, benzene, etc., or extraction can be done mechanically. Gobley originally isolated lecithin from egg yolk-λέκιθος lekithos is "egg yolk" in Ancient Greek-and established the complete chemical formula of phosphatidylcholine in 1874 in between, he had demonstrated the presence of lecithin in a variety of biological matters, including venous blood, in human lungs, bile, human brain tissue, fish eggs, fish roe, and chicken and sheep brain. In 1850, he named the phosphatidylcholine lécithine. Lecithin: Lecithin -UK:, US:, from the Greek lekithos, "egg yolk"- is a generic term to designate any group of yellow-brownish fatty substances occurring in animal and plant tissues, which are amphiphilic – they attract both water and fatty substances -and so are both hydrophilic and lipophilic-, and are used for smoothing food textures, dissolving powders -emulsifying-, homogenizing liquid mixtures, and repelling sticking materials.Lecithins are mixtures of glycerophospholipids including phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylserine, and phosphatidic acid.Lecithin was first isolated in 1845 by the French chemist and pharmacist Theodore Gobley. In open or compound fractures, the cracked or broken bone breaks through the skin. In closed fractures, the cracked or broken bone does not damage the surrounding tissue or protrude through the skin. Transverse fracture, which is a straight break right across the bone.įractures can also be broadly categorised into closed and open.Stress fracture, which is more common in athletes or those who frequently endure repeated stresses and strains on the bones.Pathological fracture, in which an underlying condition has caused the bone to weaken, making it more likely to break.Oblique fracture, which occurs when the bone has a diagonal or angled break.Hairline fracture, a partial fracture which is hard to detect in routine X-rays.It is more common among children as their bones are softer and more elastic. Greenstick fracture, which is a partial fracture where the bone is not completely broken.Comminuted fracture, where the bone is shattered into several pieces. There are many different types of fractures: A fracture is usually, but not always, the result of an injury and may be partial or complete. Bone fractures are often caused by falls, trauma, or as a result of a direct blow or kick to the body. This means that any bone in the body can break. A fracture is a partial or complete break in the bone. While bones are able to withstand pressure or impact to some extent, they will break if the force is too great to bear. In cases where the skin and other soft tissues around the fracture are badly damaged, an external fixator may be applied until you can tolerate surgery.A fracture refers to a cracked or broken bone. This device is a stabilizing frame that holds the bones in the proper position while they heal. The pins or screws are connected to a metal bar outside the skin. In this type of operation, the doctor places metal pins or screws into the broken bone above and below the fracture site. It is not typically used as a definitive treatment. Traction is usually used to align a bone or bones by a gentle, steady pulling action. This treatment is desirable for some, but not all, fractures. The cast or brace allows limited or controlled movement of nearby joints. In this type of fracture, the bone shatters into three or more pieces.Ī plaster or fiberglass cast is the most common type of fracture treatment, because most broken bones can heal successfully once they have been repositioned and a cast has been applied to keep the broken ends in proper position while they heal. This type of fracture has an angled pattern. This type of fracture has a horizontal fracture line. The bone may or may not be visible in the wound. The skin may be pierced by the bone or by a blow that breaks the skin at the time of the fracture. The broken ends of the bone line up and are barely out of place. This type of fracture is particularly serious because once the skin is broken, infection in both the wound and the bone can occur. If the bone breaks in such a way that bone fragments stick out through the skin, or a wound penetrates down to the broken bone, the fracture is called an open fracture. If the force is extreme, such as that caused by an automobile crash or gunshot, the bone may shatter. If the bone's breaking point has been exceeded only slightly, the bone may crack rather than break all the way through. The severity of a fracture usually depends on the force that caused the break. Traumatic foot and ankle injuries, including stress fractures, can cause a the 5th metatarsal to crack or even break. However, if the force is too great, bones will break, just as a plastic ruler breaks when it is bent too far. Although bones are rigid, they do bend, or give, somewhat when an outside force is applied. We already saw that the weapons are the same as Chromedomes. He’s just got eyes and a big blank under them. Also, while I’m used to seeing mouth plates, Breakaway is really just lacking a face altogether. The head is a decent enough sculpt, but thanks to the “gray” helmet, the colors don’t match Getaway like they should. Obviously, the chest is not made up of the roof of the car either, but the deco does feature some red and yellow paint to make it look like a heavily morphed version of the windshield. The arms aren’t blue, and you don’t have the red on the lower legs. The deco, however, doesn’t do that great a job of matching Getaway. I was expecting it to be the cheap stuff Hasbro sometimes uses, but it’s quite good, as is the quality of all the paint applications. I will say that I was surprised by how good the white plastic looks and feels. You get paint apps that serve to accentuate this and diminish that. The new deco does its best to differentiate Breakaway from Chromedome. He looks particularly good from the back because everything packs away very cleanly. Still, if you can get past the deja vous, the robot mode isn’t bad at all. And yes, these are all issues I had with Chromedome too. Sure, I loved those toys, but this is a new line with a new direction and after getting so many repaints and remolds of those figures, I’m not crazy about seeing it reproduced here again so soon. It feels a bit too much like a throwback to the engineering we saw on some of the Combiner Wars Stunticons. Obviously, Breakaway transforms exactly the same as Chromedome and here’s where this toy starts to lose me a little. The toy allows for several different ways to attach the weapons to the car, one of which provides a gunning station on the roof. As you probably guessed, Throttle does not turn into an engine, but he can sit in the driver compartment of the car and the fact that he’s got a lot of blue in him means that he doesn’t blend in with the same colored plastic interior like a lot of these little guys do.īreakaway comes with the exact same weapons as Chromedome, this time cast in blue plastic. I think it’s odd that they didn’t try to color match Rev, but matching the colors between Titan Master and robot seems to be the order of the day here. In this case, his body is white and his arms, legs, and head are blue. As expected, there’s no paint on him, but I will give him credit for not being all one color. It’s honestly not a bad looking car, but if I didn’t already know it, I’d be hard pressed to identify this guy as an update to Getaway. I also think that the front grill and headlights are desperately in need of some more paintwork. On the downside, it loses points for not having a spoiler, especially when you consider one could have been added by a relatively simple remold. The red tinted windows and yellow stripe above the windshield is a nice touch too. You get the red and blue stripes on the sides of the hood and again on the blue panels in front of the rear wheel wells. With that having been said, Hasbro tried to match the deco is best they could. The car design is definitely not a close match for G1 Getaway, unless you’re grading it on the most abstract of scales and count it having four wheels and, well… also being a car. Hey, if Hasbro’s going to give us a repaint, at least they did it trying to deliver us another updated G1 toy. He’s also an homage to the G1 Powermaster, Getaway, and the Titan Master, Throttle, is an homage to Getaway’s little engine buddy, Rev. If you haven’t guessed by the packaged shot, Breakaway is a straight repaint of Chromedome. This figure is the quick-and-dirty repaint that Hasbro snuck in to help cost out the wave. That’s right, it’s… Breakaway? Really? This guy? Nah, of course not. The figure that I knew was going to be amazing before I got him in hand. I’ve already checked out Hot Rod and Twinferno, now it’s time to look at the one that I was really looking forward to. I’ve got time to get in just one more Transformers Thursday before 2016 wraps up and it just so happens I’m right in the middle of my look at Wave 3 of the Titans Return Deluxes. We too are a work in progress and have much to learn. It was not lost on my kids and me that this lesson can help us in our real lives. Knowing what Jo will become, we read this story with hope and faith that all of it will work itself out. Jo's confusion about himself and the characters around him affords us the opportunity to reflect on how grace really works. Readers of Ember Falls are keenly aware of what Jo is capable of, but in this story, Jo is floundering. A hero in the making, Jo needs to first understand himself and his cause better. Jo Shanks is an insecure and self-absorbed rabbit who has much to learn. This creative twist offers readers a number of opportunities to consider the familiar story anew. It tells the key events of The Green Ember from the vantage point of rabbits who hated and distrusted the Longtreaders. In this first installment, the story opens before Jo and the Half Wind Citadel rabbits arrive at Cloud Mountain. The Archer books follow the exploits of Jo Shanks as the main series is happening. The Green Ember Archer books tell us more about the main series almost from the point of view of a third-party observer. Prince Lander and the Dragon War, as an example, gives us critically important information about key details in Ember’s End. As Sam was writing the main series, he treated us to the beautiful and relevant history of Natalia in The Tales of Old Natalia series. Those books are substantially larger/longer than the Green Ember Archer books and the Tales of old Natalia books (although, those are growing in size as they are released). Those books have a complex and well-developed story arc, and the ending of Ember’s End really and truly feels like a series-ender. There are four Green Ember books which tell the overall story. That order, however, is not chronological. Smith recommends that we read in publication order. The Last Archer builds on that creative energy with an intriguing twist.Īs of writing this (April 2022), there are ten Green Ember world books. Everything we loved about The Green Ember was present in Ember Falls, but the sequel was more satisfying, even if more tragic. It was appropriately darker, richer, more complex, and more well told. Like many, I thought Ember Falls was a brilliant sequel to The Green Ember. The Last Archer, will become the First Fowler, an ultimately, a great hero for the cause. he is a lovable, loyal, and brilliant hero. Jo Shanks is easily one of the most beloved characters of the entire series because when he is doing what he was made to do. But, readers of the series know that is not Jo’s whole story. Next to Nate Flynn, Jo is sort of a disaster. Like most of us, Jo is not the best, not the brightest, not the most courageous, and certainly not the most consistent. Ordinary in the sense that he exists for great good but he is getting in his own way. When The Last Archer opens, Jo is just not that “special.” In fact, he is pretty ordinary. I had not expected a third storyline to emerge from this #RabbitsWithSwords legendarium, but I did think Sam had a particular interest in Jo Shanks. So, when I read The Last Archer I wasn’t completely surprised that we were getting a Jo Shanks story. When I read Ember Falls, however, I began to really love the band of brothers who served under Captain Helmer and, with Picket’s experience and Heyward’s engineering, would all learn to fly. That little book had so much promise (which is, I think, realized in Prince Lander and the Dragon Wars). When Sam released The Black Star of Kingston, I delighted in the knowledge that we were getting a robust origin story for the land of Natalia. Heather did attend to his wounds in the battle, and that did pique my interest, but he did not jump off the page as one of those characters who would become a favorite. While I was reading The Green Ember, Jo Shanks did not jump out at me as being one of those characters we needed to know more about. Sam’s writing seems to suggest that if we had enough evenings on his porch, looking out at his field, he would tell us all of these stories and so many more. I said in my spoiler-free review of Ember’s End that I am an insatiable reader, but that is only part of it. And I want to know more about the votaries. Without question, I definitely want much more of Helmer’s story. And, strange as it may sound, I want to know more about Kyle’s story. I also would love to know more about Emma and Lord Rake’s story before Heather and Picket arrive at Cloud Mountain. As an example, the Weavers are written in such a way that I feel like Sam must have backstories for them that he is waiting to tell. Smith’s Green Ember books is that there are a great number of “minor” characters who are so interesting to me that I would love to see them get their own fully developed stories. One of the things I enjoy so much about the #RabbitsWithSwords world of S. The Add Account wizard changed in Workspace app 2108 and newer. The Citrix logo changed in Workspace app 2009 and newer.
